Munich (dpa/lby) - Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) has asked the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) to make a recommendation on the use of the adapted corona vaccine before it is delivered. "What use is the best vaccine if it is unclear who should be vaccinated with it," said Holetschek on Thursday after the European Medicines Agency gave the green light for two vaccines from the manufacturers Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna adapted to the Corona variant BA.1 had given.
A vaccine is expected to be on the market in a few weeks, which should also be adapted to the even more current virus variants BA.4 and BA.5. Holetschek warned that a situation should not arise in which the use of vaccines that are already available is kept being delayed. "That's why the Stiko must now express itself urgently," demanded the minister.
