Bavaria: Home index: The mood of the Bavarians increases despite crises

For Bavarians, the relief from the relaxation of the corona situation apparently outweighs the concerns about war and inflation. According to a survey, the mood in the Free State has increased.

Munich (dpa / lby) - Despite the war and inflation, Bavaria's mood has improved compared to the previous year. The "home index" for the summer of 2022, which was collected on behalf of the Bavarian Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken, is 66 points, three points higher than a year ago, as the Bavarian Cooperative Association (GVB) announced on Thursday. "The first carefree Corona summer with vacation trips, concert and stadium visits obviously boosted people's spirits," said GVB President Gregor Scheller. Negative events, on the other hand, would be ignored by many as much as possible.

The index has risen by a total of 10 points since its corona low in winter 2020/21. However, it was already higher than it is currently: When it was introduced in 2018, it was 71 out of a possible 100 points.

In the sub-indices, the value in the "Leisure, culture, education" category in particular improved, rising by 10 points to 67. The areas "Networking with friends and family" and "Technical infrastructure and basic services" each increased by four points. The "Job and personal financial situation" category was rated one point better.

In contrast, the assessment of the living environment deteriorated by one point, as did general life satisfaction, which fell by one point to 68. Here, however, Bavaria proved to be significantly more stable than the rest of the Federal Republic: the nationwide value fell by 14 points to 53 points. "The overall geopolitical situation seems to affect the Germans much more than the Bavarians," says Scheller.

The highest general satisfaction with life in the Free State was in Lower Bavaria with 72 points. They are followed by Upper Bavaria and Swabia with 69. In Middle Franconia it is 68 and in Lower Franconia 67. The survey shows the lowest values with 66 in Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia.
