Bavaria: Ingolstadt in the lead in terms of GDP: Schweinfurt brings up the rear

Fürth (dpa / lby) - Ingolstadt has the highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in Bavaria. Compared to the tail light, the district of Schweinfurt, it was more than five times as high in 2020, according to figures published on Tuesday by the State Office for Statistics.

For Ingolstadt, the statisticians calculated a value of 122,410 euros per capita. That is two and a half times the Bavarian average of 47,546 euros. Among other things, Audi is noticeable here as a large employer. It was followed by the Munich district with 112,192 euros and Erlangen with 102,859 euros. In the district of Schweinfurt, at the other end of the scale, it is 22,671 euros per capita, in the district of Bayreuth 22,840 and in the district of Fürth 23,258.

There are enormous differences between urban and rural areas: the average of the urban districts is 71,133, almost twice as much as the rural districts with 37,648 euros per capita. It becomes even clearer when comparing cities with their surrounding areas. Because while the district of Schweinfurt brings up the rear in Bavaria in terms of GDP per capita, the city of Schweinfurt is in fifth place with 94,760 euros per capita.

According to the state office, the background to these differences is partly the flow of commuters. Anyone who travels from the district to the independent city to work increases the GDP there, but is included in the statistics as a resident in the district.

At administrative district level, Upper Bavaria is ahead with 58,756 euros per capita. It is also the only one with a value above the Bavarian average. Number two - Middle Franconia - is already lower with 45,286 euros. It is followed by Upper Palatinate (42,990), Lower Franconia (40,451), Lower Bavaria (39,704) and Swabia (39,666). Upper Franconia comes in last with 38,463 euros per capita.
