Bavaria: International film weekend without Corona requirements

Würzburg (dpa/lby) - Full cinema halls without special editions and excessive discussions with filmmakers: That's what the organizers of the 49th International Film Weekend in Würzburg are hoping for the coming edition around three years after the outbreak of the corona pandemic. 35 international feature, documentary and short films are to be shown, four festival days are planned (January 27 to 30, 2023). The program was put together by the Würzburg Film Initiative, which organizes the film weekend on a voluntary basis.

In recent years, the event has only taken place to a limited extent and under Corona conditions. Most recently it was a festival in front of the home screen and via stream for most viewers and only for a few an event in the comfortable cinema chair. According to the organizers, there were up to 13,000 spectators before the pandemic.

The first international film weekend in Würzburg took place in 1974. The audience chooses its favorites from the films every year. The winners receive prize money. Traditionally, many of the films can be seen in their original language, usually with German or English subtitles.
