Bavaria: Judgment after baby killing in Lower Franconia final

Schweinfurt (dpa / lby) - Almost ten months after a mother in Schweinfurt was convicted of killing her baby, the decision is final. The revision of the accused was unsuccessful, the prison sentence remained eight years and three months, said a regional court spokesman. At the beginning of August 2021, the 28-year-old was convicted of manslaughter.

The jury saw it as proven that the woman did not take care of the newborn girl after the birth in August 2020 in her apartment in Schweinfurt and let her die. According to the chamber, the German woman had kept the pregnancy a secret in order not to have to accept economic and personal restrictions through a second child.

In his plea for manslaughter in a less serious case, the defense attorney had spoken out and believed that a suspended sentence was possible. The public prosecutor had pleaded for a prison sentence of seven and a half years for manslaughter.

The woman was originally charged with murder. However, both the regional court and the public prosecutor's office did not see any evidence of murder confirmed.
