Bavaria: Jutta Speidel: Take a closer look at domestic violence

Munich (dpa / lby) - According to Munich actress Jutta Speidel, domestic violence should be discussed more openly and critically in public. It must be looked at more closely when it comes to child welfare and domestic violence, said the 68-year-old. "It is sometimes generalized and assigned too much." The actress is known, among other things, from the TV series "For Heaven's sake" and "All my daughters".

Speidel founded the non-profit organization "Horizont" in 1997, which runs two houses for homeless children and women in Munich. On Saturday "Horizont" celebrated its 25th anniversary in Munich. According to the association, it has so far been able to help more than 2,800 children and women. A third house is planned.

"Often as a direct result of years of mistreatment, women leave their partners and the shared apartment and slip into a spiral of poverty and traumatization," said the association. In the two houses, they find a safe home and support on their way to an independent life.

The work is a daily challenge, said Speidel. You have to show great sensitivity and clear thinking without ever losing your empathy. One of her greatest joys is feeling the confidence when a family moves out with a smile.
