Bavaria: "Landshut Wedding" reassigns around 850 roles

Landshut (dpa / lby) - According to the organizer, around 850 roles for the traditional history game "Landshut Wedding 1475" will be reassigned. From June 30th there will be a solemn wedding again. The festival actually takes place every four years. Because of the corona pandemic, the 2021 season was canceled and postponed to 2023. Around 2,400 participants take part in the three-week spectacle. The organizer is the association Die Förderer.

Last year, 2,300 club members applied for the roles to be newly assigned. The presentation phase begins on January 6th. On several weekends, all applicants get the chance to introduce themselves and get hold of one of the coveted roles.

Requirements are: residence in the city or district of Landshut, club membership and hair length. After all, the hairstyles of the actors should correspond to the fashion of the Middle Ages. "Paintings have survived from a number of dignitaries at the Landshut wedding, so we sometimes keep an eye out for similarities," says Stefan Härtl, second chairman of the association and head of the costume fund. For some roles, the lot decides. So there are 400 applications for noble ladies, but only 100 costumes.

The selected applicants will be informed at the beginning of March. The most important roles - those of the bridal couple - are to be announced on March 10th. You cannot apply for this yourself. Rather, two candidates would be selected from all applicants and surprised with an "application" from the board, the association said.

The history game recreates the marriage of Duke George the Rich of Bavaria-Landshut to Hedwig of Poland in 1475. The "Landshut Wedding 1475" was included in the nationwide list of intangible UNESCO cultural heritage in 2018.
