Bavaria: LKA: Access to drugs via the Internet is still too easy

Fürth (dpa / lby) - According to leading drug investigators, the Internet has developed into a huge sales market for drugs. "Despite many efforts, it is still too easy to get hold of dangerous drugs via the Internet," said the Vice President of the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA), Guido Limmer, on Tuesday at an international expert conference in Fürth. It is important to hold Internet service providers accountable.

According to its own statements, the LKA has been very active in the fight against the sale of new psychoactive substances (NPS) on the Internet in recent years. These drugs are advertised by dealers as hip and supposedly legal lifestyle products. "In fact, the consumption of NPS is absolutely life-threatening, there is always a risk of an overdose," warned Limmer.

However, the marketing strategy of the drug dealers is very successful and millions in sales are generated on the Internet: According to Limmer, highly dangerous drugs can be ordered with just a few clicks and without any prior knowledge, without any age verification. The LKA has therefore created a broad alliance together with the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and has taken action against the online traders as part of a project funded by the EU Commission. "As a result, we pushed the largest web shops out of the market," said Limmer.

The AG Southeast, an international network of international drug investigators, is meeting in Fürth until Wednesday. These include chief investigators from police, customs and public prosecutors from 24 countries as well as experts from Interpol, Europol and Eurojust. The LKA and the US Drug Enforcement Administration had invited.
