Bavaria: Lok catches fire: Eleven people with smoke inhalation

Markt Schwaben (dpa / lby) - A locomotive caught fire on the open route on the Munich-Mühldorf railway line. According to the federal police, eleven people, including the train driver, suffered smoke poisoning in the incident on Wednesday afternoon. Four were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but had no serious injuries, said Wolfgang Hauner from the federal police. The "Münchner Merkur" had first reported on it.

According to the information, smoke was found on the locomotive on the journey between Walpertskirchen and Markt Schwaben around 2 p.m. The train with around 150 passengers on board then stopped on the open track.

It was a small flame that the engine driver was able to put out with the fire extinguisher, said Hauner. However, more smoke developed. The fire brigade was on duty. A technical defect is suspected to be the cause, possibly in the turbocharger. The train was eventually towed to Markt Schwaben, where the passengers could disembark.
