Bavaria: lost on the way to the bathing lake: woman rescued by helicopter

Bad Reichenhall (dpa / lby) - On the way to a bathing lake near Bad Reichenhall, a woman got so lost in the Alps that she had to be rescued by helicopter. The 62-year-old took the train to the spa town on Saturday to swim in Lake Thumsee, the Bavarian Red Cross announced on Sunday evening. Someone gave her the advice to go up to the lake via the pleasantly shady hiking trail on the north side of the Mayor's Heights.

But she turned in the wrong direction and climbed up to the Müllnerhörndl with unsuitable summer shoes, a shoulder bag and a summer dress, it was said. When she realized that she had been on the road for far too long and must be wrong, she continued to descend off the beaten track on the steep slopes on the south side of the Müllnerberg.

Eventually she got no further in a deep steep gully and asked for help from the Traunstein control center. In time before a thunderstorm in the evening, she was brought to safety by rescue helicopter.
