Bavaria: Low pressure area brings snow, storm and continuous rain

Munich (dpa / lby) - A low pressure area will ensure fairly uncomfortable weather in Bavaria in the coming days. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned on Wednesday of heavy gusts of wind and snowdrifts in parts of Bavaria that could last until the weekend.

Wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour are possible, especially in the mountains, and gusts of wind of up to 100 kilometers per hour in the ridges of the Alps and the Bavarian Forest. The DWD also warned of continuous rain in parts of Upper Franconia, the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria with rainfall between 40 and 60 liters per square meter in 48 to 60 hours.

For the high altitudes of the Alps, the DWD announced heavy snowfall, which could last until at least Friday. The risk of avalanches also increases at the weekend.
