Bavaria: Masks are no longer compulsory for employees in medical practices

The strictest nationwide corona rules once applied in Bavaria. Now the end of the last purely Bavarian mask requirements has come. The federal government, on the other hand, is still partially involved – at least for the time being.

Munich (dpa / lby) - Employees in Bavarian medical practices and other outpatient medical facilities no longer have to wear mouth and nose protection. The same applies to people in communal accommodation, for example in accommodation for refugees or the homeless. The corresponding state mask requirements expired at midnight, as decided by the state government.

"For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic three years ago, there are no longer any general mandatory protective measures under Bavarian law," said Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU). He emphasized: "This is a milestone and shows that normality is becoming more and more common." The strictest corona rules nationwide once applied in the Free State.

Due to federal infection protection regulations, however, the FFP2 mask requirement will remain in hospitals and care facilities, as well as for patients and visitors to medical practices - according to the current status until April 7th.

The FFP2 mask requirement in long-distance traffic, which was also regulated by federal law, will no longer apply from this Thursday (February 2nd). However, the Federal Ministry of Health is promoting the continued wearing of a mask voluntarily for self-protection.

Holetschek also called for an end to all federal mask requirements. "Now the federal government should also act and quickly review the federal regulations," he said. At the Health Ministers' Conference on Monday, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) indicated that he wanted to lift the other mask requirements earlier. The federal government should now quickly make appropriate proposals. "Many people can no longer be taught these rules, and professional societies and institutions are also demanding relaxation here."

The Bavarian Corona Ordinance only contains the recommendation to wear a mask in closed rooms, including local transport. However, a general decree still contains mask requirements and certain employment bans for people who have tested positive for Corona.
