Munich (dpa / lby) - Every diocese in Bavaria commemorates the emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. with a requiem. In addition, funeral rose wreaths will be prayed daily in numerous parishes until the funeral next Thursday in the Vatican. Benedict died in the Vatican on New Year's Eve 2022 at the age of 95.

For the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, a requiem will take place on Tuesday, January 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the Munich Cathedral of Our Lady, celebrated by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising. On Tuesday, auxiliary bishop and diocesan administrator Herwig Gössl celebrated a requiem for the former pontiff Benedict XVI on behalf of the Archdiocese of Bamberg in Bamberg Cathedral. Start is at 7:00 p.m.

In the Diocese of Eichstätt, Bishop Gregor Maria Hanke invites you to the requiem in the Church of the Guardian Angels in Eichstätt on Wednesday, January 4th at 7 p.m.

Requiens will be held in the dioceses of Passau and Augsburg on Saturday, January 7, at 10 a.m. Bishop Bertram Meier celebrates the memorial service in the Augsburg Cathedral, accompanied by the Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir. In the Cathedral of St. Stephen in Passau, the Requiem will be conducted by Bishop Stefan Oster.

A requiem with Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer is planned for January 10 in the diocese of Regensburg. Further details were not yet available. Bishop Franz Jung celebrated a memorial service for Benedict on New Year's Day in Würzburg's Kiliansdom.
