Bavaria: millions for Pinakothek der Moderne and Museum Brandhorst

Munich (dpa / lby) - A benefit auction raised millions for the Pinakothek der Moderne and the Museum Brandhorst. The auction of 33 works brought in 2.3 million euros on Saturday evening in Munich, as announced by the PIN association. The sum exceeded "all expectations in view of the tense global political situation".

According to the information, the work "The English Garden" by Cecily Brown alone achieved sales of 750,000 euros. According to PIN, the bidders came from New York, Hong Kong and from all parts of Europe, because you could not only bid on site, but also online and by telephone. One of the guests at the live auction in the Pinakothek was ex-soccer national goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

However, the 2.3 million euros are not all. The proceeds from the parallel online-only auction, which was scheduled to end at 3 p.m. this Sunday, were estimated at a further EUR 330,000.
