Bavaria: Minister of the Interior calls for the security concept to be reviewed

Munich (dpa / lby) - After the protest by climate activists at Munich Airport, Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann calls for a review of the security concept there. "I expect that it will be checked immediately whether the security concepts at Munich Airport need to be adjusted," said the CSU politician on Thursday in Munich.

"It is absolutely irresponsible to intervene in air traffic by blocking operations," emphasized Herrmann. It is an unabashed ruthlessness not only to constantly break the law, but also to potentially endanger a large number of other people with insane actions. As an example, he cited airplanes that could not land regularly despite emergencies. "These activists are apparently so obstinate that they don't care if other people are harmed."

Herrmann praised the fact that the police had managed to keep other “climate chaos” away from the southern runway. "Three people were temporarily arrested there. They will initially be taken into custody along with the climate stickers on the northern runway," he said. The Nordbahn-Stickers are suspected of a "dangerous intervention in air traffic" and other criminal offenses. "The penalty here is up to ten years imprisonment. Air traffic on the northern runway was closed for around 45 minutes."

On Thursday morning, climate activists had taped themselves to the northern runway, causing a blockage. Because the southern runway was in continuous use, there had been no flight cancellations and only minor delays.
