Bavaria: More storms expected in Bavaria over Pentecost

Munich (dpa / lby) - In Bavaria, meteorologists continue to expect severe storms on the Pentecost weekend. For Sunday, the German Weather Service (DWD) expected thunderstorms moving from west to east with the risk of heavy rain, stormy gusts and hail. Especially in Lower Bavaria and eastern Upper Bavaria, there was a risk of damage from heavy rain and hail.

The weather could also affect the clean-up work after the serious train accident in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If there were storms, the operations management would of course react and interrupt the work, said a police spokesman on Sunday.

A storm on Saturday evening caused considerable damage to the animal enclosure in the Bavarian Forest National Park in Neuschönau (Freyung-Grafenau district). That is why the area should remain closed on Pentecost Sunday and Monday, the national park administration said. Several trees had fallen on the hiking trails and broken branches hung in the treetops. The security on the paths is no longer given.
