Bavaria: More than 90 cinemas in Bavaria receive program awards

Munich/Würzburg (dpa/lby) - The FilmFernsehFonds (FFF) Bayern awarded more than 90 cinemas in Bavaria for their programming. Funding of more than 1.3 million euros was distributed to the film theaters in Würzburg, the Digital Ministry in Munich announced on Friday. The top prize of 30,000 euros went to the City-Kino in Munich.

"Especially in crises - and unfortunately now also in times of war - it becomes clear how important culture and film art in particular is," said Digital Minister Judtih Gerlach (CSU). "Movies transport current experiences, thoughts and emotions through strong and impressive images in a way that is not possible in any other medium."

The sum of program premiums this year was significantly higher than in previous years. While 415,000 euros in funding was distributed to 60 cinemas in 2019, in 2020 during the corona pandemic it was 860,000 euros for more than 80 cinemas. In 2021, the funding amount was slightly lower (800,000 euros). The money comes from the FFF shareholders, which include Bayerischer Rundfunk and ZDF as well as several private media companies, as well as from the Free State.
