Bavaria: More trains towards Stuttgart and new ICE for Ansbach

Munich (dpa/lby) - With the upcoming timetable change on December 11, rail travelers in Bavaria will have a number of additional long-distance connections. There is growth, especially from Munich in the direction of Stuttgart and beyond, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday. In addition, Ansbach will be an ICE stop and several connections coming from the north to Munich will be extended to Austria or within Austria.

According to Bahn, the route between Munich and Stuttgart will be served by 90 trains per day in one direction or the other. That's 20 more than before. In addition, some of the connections will be 15 minutes faster due to the new high-speed line between Wendlingen and Ulm. New ICE 3neo trains will then be gradually deployed here. This means that there is a direct ICE connection between Munich and Cologne twice an hour - once via Stuttgart and once via Nuremberg.

With the timetable change, Ansbach will also become an ICE stop. An ICE train stops there 20 times a week - due to construction sites, however, this is canceled again from April 1st to December 9th.

There are also additional direct connections to the south and east. At the weekend, individual ICEs and Eurocities will be extended via Rosenheim to Innsbruck, or will start there. In winter there is also an extended connection to the ski area on Saturdays up to St. Anton and Augsburg gets night train departures. And the early-morning ICE from Passau to Nuremberg and the late-evening one to Passau will run daily in future.

However, the railway also expects obstacles from construction sites. Some connections would have to be temporarily adjusted, it said. Details on the new timetable and tickets will be available from Wednesday.
