Kempten (dpa / lby) - Federal police officers picked up a family with six children on the border with Austria who allegedly wanted to enter the country without permission. As the federal police announced on Monday, the police checked the car of a 41-year-old driver on Saturday. There sat a 30-year-old passenger and a mother with her three children in the back seat. There were three other children in the trunk. According to the police, the family comes from Turkey.

The driver only had the Libyan driver's license and was charged with suspected driving without a license. He was allowed to leave the police station on foot because he had a residence permit for Germany. The Turkish passenger was turned back to Austria. Both men received criminal charges for the life-threatening smuggling of foreigners.

The children were aged between two and twelve years. The mother with her six children was forwarded to a contact point for asylum seekers in Augsburg.
