Bavaria: Munich trade fair boss Dittrich retires

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Munich trade fair boss Klaus Dittrich retires after 20 years in the management on Thursday. Bavaria's Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger said on Wednesday: "Klaus Dittrich has made Messe München one of the best and most economically successful trade fair companies in the world."

The 67-year-old had been at the top of the management board since 2010. The International Motor Show (IAA) came from Frankfurt to Munich under his aegis. The ISPO, Inhorgenta and Expo Real trade fairs have advanced to become the undisputed leading trade fairs in their sector alongside the Bauma construction machinery trade fair. Under Dittrich, Messe München became a global player with around 40 trade fairs in Asia, South America and the Middle East. After Munich, China is now the second largest location for Messe München GmbH, which is one of the five global trade fair companies with the highest turnover.

Dittrich said: "Our success has always been based on good teamwork." The Mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter (SPD), said that he had pushed the expansion of the trade fair with great success, prepared it for the future and "did a great service" to Munich and Bavaria. Bavaria's Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) said: "He is leaving a well-ordered house." From July 1st, the fair will be managed by Dittrich's previous deputy Reinhard Pfeiffer and Stefan Rummel as managing directors with equal rights.
