Munich (dpa/lby) - After two years of losses due to Corona, the Munich trade fair company is back in the black: before taxes, interest and depreciation, the management expects earnings of more than 100 million euros this year, as the trade fair company announced on Thursday. In 2021 there was still a loss of 33 million. The exhibition company did not give a forecast for the expected net result.
In the first two years of the pandemic, many trade fairs were either canceled or could only take place in a limited form. Munich is the second largest trade fair location in Germany after Frankfurt. According to the two managing directors Reinhard Pfeiffer and Stefan Rummel, the capital goods and technology fairs in particular went well this year.
The largest trade fair was the Bauma construction machinery trade fair with half a million visitors and 3,200 exhibitors on around 600,000 square meters, making it the world's largest trade fair in terms of area, according to the trade fair company.
Rummel and Pfeiffer also expect to be in the black for 2023 and 2024, although they are likely to be slightly worse again. As the most popular trade fair, the International Motor Show IAA will be held in Munich for the second time next year.
