Bavaria: Municipality of Thüngersheim receives prize for monument protection

Thüngersheim (dpa / lby) - Thüngersheim in Lower Franconia is known for winegrowing - now the community has received the German Prize for Monument Protection. On Monday, the German National Committee for Monument Protection announced the twelve winners for 2022. The "Silver Hemisphere" is the highest award in this area and honors voluntary commitment to the preservation of monuments in Germany.

The community near Würzburg and the WeinKulturGaden association were honored for their "exemplary commitment" to vacant and decaying agricultural outbuildings (so-called Gaden). According to the National Committee's justification, they are committed to restoring the historic buildings so that they can be used for exhibitions and concerts, among other things. The prize has no endowment and is awarded in November.
