Bavaria: Nazi Party Rally Grounds get new information

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - A new information service is to be created on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg. The city of Nuremberg has now bought the former dozen pond station near the Zeppelin field for this purpose. "The use of the dozen pond station makes it possible for us to provide information directly at the historic site and at the same time to clarify the function of the station for the entire site," said Mayor Marcus König (CSU) on Monday. Like the other Nazi buildings on the site, the train station, which was converted for the Nazi party rallies, is a listed building. The renovation is scheduled to begin in 2024.

From 1933 to 1938, the Nazis staged their propaganda party rallies on the site in the south-east of the city, which was attended by hundreds of thousands of party members and spectators. The Zeppelin Grandstand and the Zeppelin Field are the only structures that the National Socialists completed and used on the extensive site. The Congress Hall remained incomplete.

For around 85 million euros, the zeppelin field and the main grandstand are to be renovated over the next few years and developed into a historical place of learning. According to the city, several hundred thousand people from all over the world come every year to visit the now dilapidated buildings. In the future, visitors will be able to find out more about the history of the site and the nearby Nazi documentation center at the dozen pond station.
