Bavaria: New construction of the Kampenwandbahn: conservationists justify a lawsuit

Aschau im Chiemgau (dpa / lby) - The Bund Naturschutz has now justified its lawsuit against a modernization of the Kampenwandbahn in writing and submitted it to the Munich Administrative Court. An increase in capacity to three times the number of people does not only mean an intervention in protection forests and natural forest areas.

The planned new building is driving "the sale of the mountains in favor of commerce and Remidemmi", said BN state chairman Richard Mergner. It is advertised with adventure cabins, brunch events and celebrations on the mountain. "86 special trips should be allowed for this. The whole circus will have a massive impact on the already poor stock of black grouse on the Kampenwand, since such concepts lead to a greater rush on the mountain and to additional unrest at night."

Mergner demanded that only cable car projects that meet sustainable criteria should be funded and permitted by the Free State. "We can't see that in this project." The planned construction of the material cable car, which is to lead through the middle of natural forest areas, is particularly problematic. "A total of half a hectare of natural forest would be sacrificed here." Clear-cutting and clearing in protective forests are not allowed. "The plan is currently to circumvent this ban by designating a compensation area."

The existing cable car from the 1950s is to be modernized on the 1669 meter high mountain near Aschau im Chiemgau (Rosenheim district). There have been debates about the railway for months. The district office had approved the modernization in June.
