Bavaria: No passenger flights at Munich Airport on Friday

Munich (dpa/lby) - All regular passenger flights at Munich Airport will be canceled on Friday due to a warning strike. As the airport announced after the strike was announced by the Verdi union on Wednesday, no passenger planes are to land or take off from Friday 12:00 a.m. to Saturday 1:00 a.m. Excluded are, among other things, the more than 50 announced private flights to the Munich Security Conference beginning on Friday.

A spokesman for the airport said that more than 700 take-offs and landings and around 90,000 passengers were affected by the cessation of passenger operations in Munich. Affected passengers are strongly advised to inquire with their respective airline.

The Verdi union had called for all-day warning strikes at several German airports on Friday. A joint strike by public sector employees, aviation security and ground handling services is planned in Munich, as Verdi Bayern announced on Wednesday. From 11 a.m. the strikers want to gather at the airport for a demonstration.
