Bavaria: Norbert Seibert criticizes Bavarian educational policy

Passau (dpa / lby) - The Passau school teacher Norbert Seibert has sharply criticized the education policy of the Bavarian state government. He is particularly bothered by the fact that the lack of teachers is to be compensated for with lateral entrants. "There will certainly be a few career changers who also have pedagogical skills and are really interested in schoolchildren, but that may not be the norm," said Seibert of the "Mediengruppe Bayern" (Saturday). "The emergency solution of the Minister of Education will rob many students of their real abilities and cause lasting damage to society."

Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) can only keep teaching going "if he cancels wherever possible," said the chair of school education at the University of Passau. "Remedial lessons and differentiation measures are just a sign of a good education system, because it also takes into account those who are less able. If everything is reduced to a minimum, that only speaks for emergency solutions and that's not a flagship for Bavarian education policy."

The shortage of teachers is currently particularly serious in elementary and middle schools, but "in the long run, the grammar school will probably also suffer if the most important resource, well-trained teachers, are not available".
