Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's second largest prosecuting authority, the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth, processed 71,926 investigations last year. An increase of around 8 percent or 5292 procedures, as the authority announced on Wednesday in Nuremberg in its annual balance sheet.

Property crimes continue to account for the largest proportion. 29 percent of all proceedings were related to criminal offenses such as theft. Traffic offenses came second with 19 percent. According to the information, their number had fallen significantly in the previous two years of the pandemic and in 2022 was almost back to the level it was before the pandemic.

In the case of so-called crude crimes, too, the trend was clearly upwards again. In proceedings for intentional bodily harm, the public prosecutor's office recorded an increase of around 23 percent to 5209 proceedings. In the case of capital crimes directed against a person's life, the number of investigations rose from 48 to 71.

In addition to the proceedings with known suspects, the authority also processed 50,567 proceedings against unknown perpetrators - an increase of around 23 percent compared to the previous year. Bavaria's largest prosecuting authority - in terms of the number of cases and employees - is the Munich I public prosecutor's office.
