Bavaria: Nuremberg names place after "NSU" victim İsmail Yaşar

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - In Nuremberg, a square now commemorates the "NSU" victim İsmail Yaşar. The right-wing extremist terrorist cell shot the 50-year-old in June 2005 in his snack bar across from a school in Nuremberg. İsmail Yaşar Square is very close to the crime scene. According to the city, the family of the victim should also come to the memorial service on Thursday.

Since last September, Enver Şimşek Square has been commemorating the first victim of the "National Socialist Underground" group. The right-wing terrorists murdered ten people between 2000 and 2007, three of them in Nuremberg: In addition to the 38-year-old florist Enver Şimşek and the snack bar owner İsmail Yaşar, the 49-year-old tailor Abdurrahim Özüdoğru.

According to the city itself, after the murder of İsmail Yaşar, the family of the victim was targeted by the investigators, who suspected contacts in the drug scene. There were searches of the snack bar, his apartment and a playground nearby, but without results. It was only six years later that it turned out that the family man had become a victim of the "NSU".

A second investigative committee in the Bavarian state parliament, which met for the first time in May, is now also dealing with the racist series of murders and possible connections between the "NSU" and the Bavarian neo-Nazi scene. There were already investigative committees in the federal government and in several federal states that dealt with investigative errors and mistakes by the authorities. But there are still many unanswered questions, especially with regard to possible other backers and supporters of the "NSU" terrorists.
