Bavaria: Pandemic: "Dramatic development" at the Würzburg University Hospital

Würzburg (dpa / lby) - In view of the large number of corona infections, treatments at the Würzburg University Hospital can now be postponed more frequently. The clinic announced on Friday that the load limit had been exceeded. "There hasn't been such an ongoing stress phase with such a high number of patients since the beginning of the pandemic," said Medical Director Professor Jens Maschmann, according to the announcement. He described the development this week in particular as "dramatic".

According to the clinic, not only do many patients have to be treated with proof of corona. At the same time, staff are absent in almost all occupational groups, often at very short notice. Therefore, with immediate effect, it could happen in all areas of the clinic that treatments that could be planned and were not urgent would have to be postponed.

According to Maschmann, everyone wanted to relax in the summer. "Unfortunately, the opposite has happened: record numbers of patients and growing staff shortages." It is necessary that the overload come back on the political agenda.

According to the clinic, 65 patients with SARS-CoV-2 are currently (as of Friday) being cared for at the University Hospital in Würzburg, 59 of them in normal wards and the other six patients in intensive care. In the case of the normal stations, this is "a sad high".
