Bavaria: price advantage when filling up in Austria is getting smaller

So far, anyone who fills up in Austria has been able to save regularly. But a CO2 price that will apply from Saturday will reduce the differences to Germany. In the case of diesel, the prices could be the same in the future.

Vienna/Munich (dpa/lby) - Tank trips to Austria are becoming less profitable for Bavarian drivers. From Saturday, the new CO2 pricing will take effect there, increasing the price of every liter of petrol by around 8.6 cents and every liter of diesel by around 9.9 cents. Actually, it should have been due in July, but was postponed to October due to high energy prices.

For motorists in Bavaria, this reduces the savings when refueling across the border. According to the latest comparative data from the EU Commission, a liter of premium petrol in Austria was 27.2 cents cheaper than in Germany last Monday, and diesel was 9.6 cents cheaper. According to this, the price advantage for diesel would disappear completely, while for petrol it would drop to just under 19 cents. However, Bavaria recently had prices that were well above average within Germany, so that the regional differences could be somewhat larger.

The prices in the other neighboring Bavarian country, the Czech Republic, are even lower than in Austria: Here, compared to the German average price, it was possible to save almost 42 cents per liter of premium petrol on Monday, and a good 26 cents per liter of diesel.

However, the price differences when driving across the borders vary. On the one hand, there are also differences between individual gas stations and regions in the Czech Republic and Austria. On the other hand, the prices change significantly over the course of the day.
