Bavaria: Reinhard Mey and Dorfrocker settle a legal dispute

Kirchaich/Berlin (dpa/lby) - The musician Reinhard Mey and the Lower Franconian band Dorfrocker have settled their legal dispute over a cover version of the song "Above the Clouds". As the band and a lawyer for the 80-year-old songwriter unanimously announced on Thursday, both sides had reached an amicable agreement.

The dispute between Mey and the trio of brothers from Kirchaich (Hassberge district) was sparked by a cover song entitled "Climate Glue Above the Clouds", in which the village rockers criticized the climate activists' sticking actions. On the other hand, Mey defended himself with a cease-and-desist declaration and announced that once again the song "Above the Clouds" was being misused for "baiting and insults".

A conversation between the band and the 80-year-old was apparently able to resolve this dispute. They contacted Mey and stated that it was never their aim to offend him in any way with the parody, the village rockers wrote on their Facebook page on Thursday. "Rather, we have respect for Reinhard Mey's life's work." The short parody video should therefore disappear from the band's social media channels. The singer-songwriter had originally demanded a cease-and-desist letter.
