Bavaria: Rioting football fans ensure large-scale operation in Nuremberg

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - A group of around 150 football fans rioted in downtown Nuremberg, triggering a large-scale police operation. The fans gathered near the main train station on Saturday and then started chanting, lighting Bengali torches and smoke pots, the police said on Sunday. Occasionally there were also arguments. The called officers stopped the onward train, whereby batons and pepper spray were also used, it was said. Many of the fans fled, 14 of them were taken into custody to prevent further crimes. The identity of another 30 participants could be determined. A police officer suffered minor injuries.
