Bavaria: risk of forest fires in Bavaria at the highest level

Munich (dpa / lby) - Because of the summer heat and the dried out soil, there is currently the highest risk of forest fires in Bavaria. The five-level danger index of the German Weather Service has been at the highest level for large parts of Bavaria since Tuesday, the Ministry of Forestry in Munich announced. Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) therefore appeals to all forest visitors to be particularly careful. "The current heat wave and the prevailing drought are causing the forest floors in many places to be covered with dried, easily inflammable leaves, twigs and needles. A carelessly discarded cigarette butt is enough to start a forest fire with serious consequences." Parking on dry grass can also be dangerous because of the hot vehicle catalytic converters.
