Bavaria: "Scream that went through marrow and leg": search in the Alps

Bayerisch Gmain (dpa / lby) - More than 30 emergency services from the mountain rescue service, fire brigade and police were looking for a suspected crashed person in the north-eastern Lattengebirge of the Berchtesgaden Alps. A hiker heard a "scream that went through marrow and bone" and dialed the emergency call, the Bavarian Red Cross said on Thursday. A helicopter with a thermal imaging camera then searched the area near Bayerisch Gmain (Berchtesgadener Land district) on Wednesday evening. With a thermal imaging drone, the emergency services flew over the slopes and ditches that were difficult to see. Foot troops were also deployed.

After more than four hours, there was no indication of an emergency, it was said. Presumably the cry came from a wild animal during the mating season or from an owl whose screech deceptively resembles a human sound. A total of 32 forces were involved in the search.
