Bavaria: Slight drop in visitors at the Straubinger Gäubodenvolksfest

Straubing (dpa / lby) - Around 1.3 million people visited the Gäuboden folk festival in Straubing. This was announced by Mayor Markus Pannermayr (CSU) on Monday afternoon. The festival should end in the evening. At the last Gäuboden folk festival before the two-year Corona interruption in 2019, 1.45 million visitors were counted. The joy of the people that the folk festival was allowed to take place again was noticeably great, said the head of the town hall.

The corona incidence in the city and district is currently around the national average. Possible after-effects in the coming weeks remained to be seen.

The decline of around 10 percent is also reflected in serving and eating, Pannermayr summed up and pointed out that the last evening of celebrations was still to come. According to this, 7800 hectoliters of beer and shandy (2019: 8500 hectoliters) were drunk, 34 oxen (2019: 38) and 50,000 Gickerl (for non-Lower Bavaria: grilled chickens/2019: 60,000) were eaten.

The Gäuboden folk festival started on August 12th. According to the organizers, there are seven beer tents with around 27,000 seats and an amusement park with around 130 showmen. At the same time, the Ostbayernschau takes place, a consumer fair for everything to do with agriculture, leisure and crafts.
