Bavaria: Sports associations are demanding a cap on energy costs

Munich (dpa / lby) - The sports associations of the federal states are calling for a cap on energy costs. The sports clubs and associations in Germany need noticeable financial relief, especially after the restrictions of more than two years of pandemic, the Bavarian State Sports Association justified this demand in a press release on Monday. In addition, the federal government is being asked to change the third relief package in the short term so that sport is also considered.

"For many of our approximately 12,000 BLSV member clubs and 56 sports associations, the next few months will be about continuing to enable sport, avoiding the closure of sports facilities and ensuring economic survival," said BLSV President Jörg Ammon after the autumn conference of the 16 State sports associations in Munich. "Therefore, the capping of energy costs and economic aid measures must come at short notice in order to secure livelihoods, prevent an impending cost explosion and give our clubs the necessary planning security."

In addition, the respective state governments and municipalities in Germany are requested to avoid energy-related closures of sports facilities and swimming pools. Organized sport should also be taken into account in funding measures for sustainable investments to save energy costs.

The conference dealt with the current development and its effects on the approximately 90,000 German sports clubs. Organized sport in Germany, with its sports clubs and sports associations, is facing an existential threat from possible closures of sports facilities and rising energy costs.
