Bavaria: State elections in Tyrol: ÖVP explored with almost all parties

Innsbruck (dpa/lby) - After the state elections in Tyrol, the conservative ÖVP, as the force with the most votes, wants to talk to all parties except the right-wing FPÖ about the formation of a new state government. This was announced by ÖVP state party leader Anton Mattle on Monday after a meeting of the state party executive. Whether there will be a two-way variant with the Social Democratic SPÖ or a three-way coalition will depend on the overlapping content. The ÖVP, which has been the prime minister for 77 years, lost around ten percentage points on Sunday and fell to 34.7 percent. In view of even worse polls, the result is "quite respectable," said Mattle.

The winners of the election included the right-wing FPÖ (18.9 percent) and List Fritz, which campaigns for equal opportunities and affordable housing (9.9 percent). The SPÖ stagnated at 17.5 percent. The Greens, the previous coalition partner of the ÖVP, lost votes (9.2 percent). The liberal neos came to 6.3 percent.
