Bavaria: State parliament now also active on Twitter competitor Mastodon

Munich (dpa / lby) - Like the Bundestag, the Bavarian state parliament is now also represented on the Twitter competition platform Mastodon. "Hello Mastodon! From now on we will horn here for the latest information

"We offer cross-party, neutral information on the processes and events in Parliament on our social media channels. The direct exchange with the citizens is crucial, so I'm pleased that we can now also offer this on Mastodon," said the President of the State Parliament Ilse Aigner (CSU) on Thursday in Munich.

In particular, the Mastodon profile is an addition to the existing channel on Twitter. The state parliament can also be found on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. The "social.bund.de" server operated by the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) is used for implementation.

Together with the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate, the state parliament of Hesse, the state parliament of Bremen, the state parliament of Lower Saxony, the state parliament of Thuringia and the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg, seven state parliaments are currently represented on this server. The Bavarian State Commissioner for Data Protection has also been using this server for his Mastodon account since May 2022.

In contrast to the short message service Twitter, no other ministries or ministers have been found at Mastodon from Bavarian state politics. The micro blogging service was developed in Germany in 2016. Unlike Twitter, Mastodon is not a uniform service, but consists of a decentralized network of different servers.
