Bavaria: Strong gas price increases from October also in Bavaria

In Nuremberg and Regensburg, the basic suppliers are not yet increasing their gas prices as of October 1, in Munich and Augsburg, and calculations are still being made in Würzburg. A further price increase is already in sight.

Munich (dpa/lby) - The first gas suppliers in Bavaria want to pass on the state levy to their customers from October 1st and increase prices sharply. For others, the federal government's burden and relief plans came at too short notice - customers still have a breather. For example, Stadtwerke München and Stadtwerke Augsburg will refrain from raising prices in six weeks. A spokesman for Stadtwerke Augsburg said it had not yet been decided when the prices would be increased.

The so-called gas procurement levy of 2.4 cents per kilowatt hour, which was only announced on Monday, is intended to compensate for the increased procurement costs of large importers in order to protect them from bankruptcy. A gas storage levy will also be added. The Würzburg supply and transport company is still calculating and refers to the government's plan announced on Thursday to reduce the value added tax on natural gas from 19 to 7 percent.

On the other hand, the Nuremberg basic supplier N-Ergie has already announced to its customers that it will increase the gas price by 2.88 cents per kilowatt hour from October 1st. "Depending on the natural gas product and consumption, this corresponds to an average price increase of around 28 percent for private households," said the company, which belongs to the Nürnberger Stadtwerke and the Eon Group, which supplies large areas of northern Bavaria with electricity, natural gas, water, district heating and energy services provided. For a three-person household, which consumes 18,000 kilowatt hours per year in the natural gas smart tariff, for example, the additional monthly costs from October 2022 will be around 43 euros, it said.

Irrespective of the levy, the procurement prices for suppliers have also risen steadily on the energy markets. "Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that these additional costs will also have to be passed on at a later date. This may make it necessary to adjust the natural gas prices again," N-Ergie warned its customers before.

The Regensburg basic supplier Rewag will also increase gas prices on October 1st. Customers would be informed on Friday, a spokesman said. According to the information, Rewag supplies more than 200,000 people with electricity, natural gas, heat and drinking water. The drinking water prices in Regensburg will already be increased on September 1st.

Gas suppliers must officially inform their customers six weeks in advance if they collect the gas surcharge. If they want to use the first possible day, October 1st, they must notify their customers by Friday.
