Bavaria: Strong minus in the Bavarian inland shipping

Fürth (dpa / lby) - Bavarian inland shipping had already recorded a significant decline in freight volumes before the low water problems in the summer. In the first half of this year, 2.95 million tons of goods were handled in the Bavarian ports, as the State Statistics Office announced on Thursday. That is 6.9 percent less than in the same period last year. There was a significant minus in the first half of 2021. For comparison: in 2020, goods handling in the first half of the year was still 3.7 million tons.

In the current year, 1.61 million tons of goods went to the Danube area and 1.34 million tons to the Main area. The ports with the highest turnover were Regensburg with 559,000 tons and Aschaffenburg with 367,000 tons. The most important goods were ores, stones, earth and other mining products with 21.8 percent of the goods volume. They overtook the products of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, whose share fell by 6.6 points to 21.5 percent.

During the dry summer, inland shipping in Bavaria suffered from low water levels. However, this will only be reflected in the figures for the second half of the year.
