Bavaria: Study: Thousands per year without a secondary school diploma

Munich/Gütersloh (dpa/lby) - Several thousand young people in Bavaria end their schooling year after year without at least having a high school diploma in their pockets. The proportion of school leavers without a degree has recently stagnated in Bavaria at around five percent. This emerges from a study by education researcher Klaus Klemm on behalf of the Bertelsmann Foundation, which was made public on Monday. Accordingly, the rate in 2021 was 5.1 percent, after 4.9 percent in 2020. In absolute numbers, a total of 6154 young people left school in 2021 without a secondary school certificate. However, the rate in Bavaria was the lowest nationwide.

Important for classification: only a small proportion of young people without a secondary school qualification actually attended secondary school, at least according to nationwide figures. A large proportion of the students therefore attended special schools.
