Bavaria: suspected "Reich citizen" shoots at police officers

Munich (dpa / lby) - A suspected "Reich citizen" is said to have shot steel balls at police officers in Munich. During a search of the 52-year-old's apartment, the emergency services later found a lot of evidence. No one was injured in the incident at a gas station on Monday.

According to the police headquarters in Munich, the tenant of the gas station informed the officials on Wednesday because a pane of glass in his shop had been damaged. As it turned out, there were two bullet holes in the window. While the police officers and the tenant were still in front of the pane, they were suddenly shot at with steel balls.

The emergency services were able to secure some steel balls at a nearby construction site. Shortly thereafter, a man who had previously verbally attacked the police officers was checked in the vicinity of the gas station. The 52-year-old, who lives in Munich, said slogans known from "Reich citizens" and had a knife with him. After he refused to put down the knife, the officers took him to a police station.

When securing evidence at the gas station, a slingshot was found with which the steel balls were probably thrown. When searching the 52-year-old's apartment, the officers found the packaging of the slingshot and the steel balls. A firearm and several knives were also seized. In addition, according to the police, the 52-year-old had objects in the apartment that could be assigned to the "Reich Citizens" movement.

The 52-year-old now has to answer for the physical attack on law enforcement officers, attempted dangerous bodily harm and property damage, it said.
