Bavaria: Suspected smugglers: chase with the police

Freilassing (dpa / lby) - Two suspected smugglers were arrested by the federal police after a daring chase in Freilassing (Berchtesgadener Land district). Officials in a patrol car wanted to check the car with a foreign license plate, the police said. However, the driver ignored the stop signal and initially managed to escape.

A little later, the police sighted the vehicle again and resumed pursuit. The car continued to race at up to 140 kilometers per hour. A dangerous overtaking maneuver almost resulted in a collision with an oncoming car. At a checkpoint that had been set up in the meantime, the officials were finally able to stop the car on Monday evening.

The 26-year-old driver and his 29-year-old passenger were arrested by the police after considerable resistance. The alleged smugglers probably wanted to smuggle in eight people - three adults and five children. The driver and his passenger now have to answer for the smuggling of foreigners under life-threatening conditions. In addition, the driver can expect additional reports of endangering road traffic, attempted unauthorized entry and resistance to law enforcement officials.
