Bavaria: Swimming and boat trips are dangerous because of possible flooding

Munich (dpa / lby) - Because of the flood warning for Munich, swimming in and boat trips on the Isar are not recommended. There could be a significant danger to life and limb, as the Department for Climate and Environmental Protection announced on Friday. When the water level is noticeably high, there is a strong current or as soon as the water is cloudy, the Isar should not be navigated by boats.

According to the Bavarian flood news service, reporting level 2 is almost reached on the Isar. At high tide, suitable exit points could be flooded, washed-up flotsam could damage boats and paddling requires much more strength, said the Department for Climate and Environmental Protection. The risk of injury while swimming would also increase.

In the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, according to forecasts, it is also likely that notification level 2 will be reached on the Loisach. The risk of higher reporting levels cannot be ruled out. According to the flood news service, the water levels could rise sharply and overflow within a short period of time, particularly on the smaller bodies of water. However, these cannot be predicted.
