Munich (dpa/lby) - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has brought into play a relaxation of the mask requirement to protect against corona infections in local public transport in the Free State. "If the infection situation remains the same, we will think about making masks compulsory in local public transport," announced Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) in the Munich Merkur (Tuesday edition).
"In December, by January at the latest, the mandatory mask requirement could be converted into a voluntary recommendation if the situation remains the same," Söder told the newspaper. In view of the falling numbers, a general requirement "will soon no longer be appropriate," said Söder.
The current version of the Bavarian Infection Protection Ordinance, which stipulates a mask requirement, is valid until December 9th. Schleswig-Holstein had made an attempt to overturn the mask requirement, but initially met with a divided response.
