Bavaria: The number of burglaries in Bavaria is falling significantly due to the pandemic

Munich (dpa / lby) - The number of burglaries in the Free State has decreased significantly due to the corona pandemic. Statistics from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) show that the number of burglaries fell by 44.5 percent last year compared to 2020 - and by 3.7 percent in 2020 compared to 2019. The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday that a total of 955 burglaries were prevented by attentive witnesses, alarms and burglar-proof windows and doors. The authorities expect that the number could go up again after the corona protection measures are lifted.

In addition, according to the ministry, 37 burglars were arrested in the act. The risk of becoming a victim of a burglary fell to 18 cases per 100,000 inhabitants last year.

"In addition to a high police presence and consistent controls, we depend on attentive citizens," emphasized Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU). "After the corona protection measures have been reduced, the burglars will certainly increase their activities again."

According to the Minister of the Interior, the security of one's own home can often be improved in a simple manner. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the criminal police advice centers in the Free State offer free advice for this.
