Bavaria: Theft of ammunition: Former Bundeswehr soldier must be in custody

Augsburg (dpa / lby) - Around 25 years after an ammunition theft in the Bundeswehr, a former soldier was sentenced to prison. The accused, who confessed, received a prison sentence of one year and five months on Tuesday, reported court spokeswoman Andrea Hobert. Since the 49-year-old man had already had a criminal record, there was no probation. However, the judgment is not yet final.

The trial was not directly about the theft of the ammunition that the Bundeswehr soldier is said to have stolen from a barracks in Donauwörth in northern Swabia by the beginning of April 1998. Because the theft is now time-barred.

But last year, part of the ammunition stolen at the time - including more than 300 handgun cartridges, 18 pieces of practice ammunition and combat ammunition within the meaning of the War Weapons Act - was discovered in the defendant's apartment. This earned him the indictment. It was now about illegal possession of ammunition, illegal handling of explosive substances and a violation of the War Weapons Control Act.
