Bavaria: Tourist traffic at the beginning of the carnival holidays: rear-end collisions

Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - At the start of the carnival holidays, there was a lot of travel, especially in southern Bavaria. The police said there were some rear-end collisions and subsequent traffic jams in the foothills of the Alps in Upper Bavaria on Saturday morning. In the border tunnels at Farchant and Füssen, drivers heading for Austria were increasingly allowed through in blocks. The traffic light in front of the tunnel is briefly switched to red so that the number of vehicles in it can be checked. According to the police, this should prevent traffic jams in the tunnel itself. On Saturday, the main travel day, vehicles from northern Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands were mainly on their way south.
