Bamberg (dpa / lby) - Due to construction work on the railway, commuters between Bamberg and Forchheim in particular will have to plan more time from the coming week. From Monday, January 9 at 10:30 p.m. to Saturday, February 11 at 1:15 a.m., S-Bahn line 1 and numerous regional trains in this section will be replaced by buses, as a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday.
Reason is the information after work on the high-speed line between Nuremberg and Bamberg. Work is being done there on catenary masts and noise protection walls, for example. For this purpose, the route between Bamberg and Forchheim will be closed on a single track. Since trains then ran in both directions on the remaining track, the traffic had to be thinned out. According to Bahn, this also results in changed travel times and train cancellations in long-distance traffic. The changes are already available in the train timetable information.
The construction work is part of the Munich-Berlin high-speed route. According to Bahn, the section from Forchheim to Bamberg will be expanded to four tracks in stages by the middle of the decade. The high-speed route has been in operation since 2017 and has reduced the travel time from Munich to Berlin to around four hours.
