Neumarkt/Velburg (dpa/lby) - After a truck accident on Autobahn 3 between Velburg and Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz on Wednesday, the lane towards Nuremberg is closed. The closure is expected to continue into the evening, said a spokesman for the highway police on Wednesday morning.
A 61-year-old man drove his truck over a road divider near a construction site and tore it out of its anchorage. Concrete and metal parts were destroyed in a range of about 500 meters. The truck's tank was ripped out and around 600 liters of diesel seeped into the ground, the police spokesman said. There was property damage of around 300,000 euros.
The driver was unharmed, as was the driver of a following car, which drove over the debris field. The truck was born successfully on Wednesday morning, the articulated lorry and parts of the destroyed lane divider were provisionally cleared to the side. The clean-up work is expected to take several hours.
Motorists must expect traffic jams and long waiting times in both directions, since the road in the direction of Regensburg is only one lane. The police spokesman advises that it is best to avoid the area and switch to the A93 or the A9, for example.
